Advice on acceptable noise levels can be found in the Government guidance Planning Practice Guidance: Minerals. Noise limits for routine daytime operations at dwellings should not normally exceed the background sound level by more than 10dB(A) and should not exceed 55dB LAeq,1hr.
The night-time economy
For minerals sites, night-time noise levels should not normally exceed a level of 42dB LAeq,1hr. For sites with an Environment Agency permit, a BS 4142 assessment may be needed and there is a general requirement to ‘avoid pollution’.
