Richard Lyons BEng PhD CEng MIOA MCIBSE started his career as a Building Services Design Engineer gaining over 8 years’ experience and a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Building Services Engineering from the University of Liverpool in 1989.

Having developed a special interested in acoustics, Richard obtained his Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control from the IOA in 1990, before going on to complete a PhD in 1993 on research into open screen noise transmission and alternative methods of sound insulation measurement.

Richard works in all areas of the practice and has over 30 years of experience in research, teaching and consultancy in acoustics. He joined WBM in 2005 and became a Partner in 2009. Following the conversion of WBM to a limited company in 2022, Richard has continued his involvement in the business as the Principal Consultant. Richard has extensive experience of the entertainment/leisure and educational building sectors and enjoys problem solving in relation to noise and vibration associated with buildings and building services plant and systems. Richard has experience in expert witness work relating to both architectural and building services acoustics.

In his own time, Richard enjoys skiing, cycling at home and abroad, short and long distance walking, camping holidays and films.
