Most buildings have acoustic requirements specifically driven by their proposed use, activities within the building and the surrounding environment. There are compulsory acoustic performance requirements for certain developments, for example, as stipulated in the Building Regulations. There are many other types of building that do not have such mandatory requirements, however, there are guidance documents containing acoustic performance values for certain uses. These include Health Technical Memorandum HTM 08-01: Acoustics for healthcare facilities and Court Standards and Design Guide for courts. General guidance can be found in British Standard BS 8233 and specific performance values can also be set out within Client's own specifications or may be required to meet BREEAM standard or bespoke assessments.
