The leisure industry represents a diverse group of businesses, including sport and entertainment, but also gaming, tourism, hospitality, countryside recreation, the arts and heritage and many others. In the UK and Europe the leisure sector is extremely vibrant and is one of the fastest growing industries in the world, due to the fact that people's leisure time and disposable income have generally been on the increase. In the UK, leisure accounts for almost one third of total consumer spending, and has increased in importance to such an extent there is a governmental Department of Culture, Media and Sport.

WBM has been involved with this industry for 40 years and have taken responsibility for the acoustic aspects of many forms of sport and leisure development, ranging from ten-pin bowling venues to motor sport and race grandstands to multi-screen cinemas. WBM has worked on both large stand-alone health & fitness clubs and small home cinema and have undertaken work both within the UK and overseas. The acoustic design of a building is extremely important especially, for example, where high and low noise spaces sit side by side. Correct acoustic design can affect many aspects of occupancy, including privacy, noise break-out and break-in, annoyance, disturbance and speech communication. These issues can be addressed through proper attention to the sound insulation requirements, room acoustics and services noise. WBM provides practical advice and recommendations on all aspects of acoustics including assistance on constructions and materials to achieve relevant criteria.
