Commercial and industrial development may require assessment of the likely noise and vibration impact on surrounding land users and potentially within the same site or developments adjoining existing premises. WBM is able to offer help and advice to developers and contractors to meet their statutory obligations and environmental policy commitments. We can undertake the prediction and measurement of noise levels from site preparation, demolition and construction activities. Vibration levels can also be assessed based on measurements and observations at other sites.
The proximity of other uses will impose constraints on developers and these constraints need to be addressed. Sections 60 and 61 of Part III of the Control of Pollution Act 1974 and BS 5228: 2009 are the principal mechanisms for controlling construction noise and vibration. Based on experience we can provide clients with practical advice on methods of noise reduction and for large scale projects we can assist in the preparation of Section 61 prior consent documentation for site development works.
WBM has considerable experience in assisting developers of housing, industrial, commercial and retail developments with sites alongside existing noise sources such as roads, railways, airfields and industry. Potential noise problems for sites adjacent to noise sensitive receptors such as dwellings can by avoided by careful layout planning and noise mitigation. We have extensive experience with many house builders on sites ranging from individual houses to multi-developer projects for the assessment of noise impact and consideration of mitigation.
Many major sites in London have been redeveloped, causing our clients to have to move their operations to other sites or to modernise their plant within the time and physical constraints of major transportation improvements and new mixed use developments.
We are currently assisting our clients in negotiations with relevant authorities and representatives of adjacent sites to seek solutions that would allow the development of those sites as well as continued operation of the industrial activity.
