Grosvenor "E Casino" Scarborough
WBM was retained by Rank Gaming to undertake an acoustic assessment for a proposed Grosvenor “E Casino” in Scarborough. The casino was located in the ground floor of a former pub with existing student accommodation above. The assessment included measurements in a similar casino facility to determine typical operation levels, sound insulation tests of the existing separating floor and measurements of baseline noise levels inside the student accommodation.
The measurements results, along with appropriate guidelines and standards, were used to set break-in noise limits within the student bedrooms. WBM liaised with the client, structural engineer and architect to develop practical mitigation recommendations to upgrade the separating floor constructions.
In addition to work on the separating floor, WBM undertook the measurement and assessment of background noise levels at the nearest residential properties to establish appropriate external plant noise limits. WBM carried out an assessment of all the external plant and provided recommendations for attenuation mitigation in order to achieve the proposed limits.
Following the construction works, WBM carried out sound insulation tests that confirmed that the performance of the separating floor had been significantly improved. Calculated noise break-in to the student bedrooms from the “E Casino” was shown to meet the proposed overall noise limits.
