Meadowbank Adult Learning Centre
WBM was retained to undertake an acoustic assessment of a proposed Adult Learning Centre in Cranford, Hounslow. The site is located below the northern runway approach at Heathrow Airport and is therefore exposed to considerable aircraft noise.
The centre had a requirement to achieve reasonable internal noise levels, based on the guidance provided in BS 8233:1999. To achieve these values, WBM assessed noise break-in via each individual component of the building envelope and provided recommendations for the constructions. WBM set limits for internal mechanical services and external plant, and provided guidance on the amounts of acoustic attenuation required to achieve internal limits. We also reviewed the internal sound insulation and reverberation time criteria.
Once constructed, WBM carried out noise measurements on site to check that the building envelope and mechanical services were performing as expected.
