Dr Paul Cockcroft BEng(Hons) PhD CEng MIMMM FIOA: Senior Partner
Paul has been practising in mining engineering and acoustics since 1983. He joined WBM in 1989, became an Associate in 1991, a Partner in 1997 and Senior Partner in 2004. Paul has concentrated on environmental noise and planning related work, with considerable experience of planning appeal work and preparing evidence for court cases. He has been involved in work for mineral operators, waste disposal companies, planning authorities and developers at over one thousand mineral, waste disposal, housing, commercial development and other sites as well as measurement and noise prediction work for road and rail schemes. |

Dr Richard Lyons BEng(Hons) PhD CEng MIOA MCIBSE: Partner
Richard began his career in Building Services Engineering, undertaking his degree in this field in 1985. His interest in acoustics developed during his degree and he completed his PhD in acoustics in 1993. Richard researched and lectured in acoustics, building science and building services engineering until he joined WBM from Loughborough University in July 2005. He became an Associate in 2008 and a Partner in 2009. Richard is responsible for building and architectural acoustics projects including educational, residential, cinema, heath & fitness and mixed leisure venues and also has input to a variety of environmental noise projects. |
Rachel Canham BEng(Hons) MSc CEng MIOA: Partner
Rachel’s career in acoustic consultancy began in 1993 on completion of her degree in Electroacoustics. She has worked in consultancies in Oxford and London and gained a Masters degree in Environmental Acoustics in 1998. She joined WBM in 1999, became an Associate in 2005 and a Partner in 2009. Rachel primarily works in the areas of architectural and building acoustics, with particular experience in sound insulation, entertainment/leisure projects and educational buildings. She is also involved in environmental noise projects including the preparation of Environmental Statements and has developed WBM’s noise mapping capabilities using SoundPlan. |
Matthew Sweet BEng(Hons) MIOA: Consultant
Matthew began his career in acoustic consultancy in 1995 following completion of his degree in Sound and Vibration from Southampton University. He joined WBM in 2001 and deals mainly with environmental noise and vibration projects. Matthew also has considerable experience within the building acoustics and sound insulation fields.

Dr Robert Storey BEng(Hons) PhD MIOA: Consultant
Robert joined WBM in 2007 after working in Local Government within an Environmental Health department for 5 years. Prior to his work in the public sector Robert had worked briefly as a consultant following the completion of his PhD. Robert’s degree was in mining engineering and his PhD research investigated vibration arising from blasting at surface mineral workings. Robert works primarily on environmental noise projects including noise mapping but also assists with building acoustic related projects. |
