WBM has completed hundreds of projects dealing with architectural acoustics for commercial and residential developments including new and refurbished buildings. Sound insulation testing is undertaken in accordance with current national and international standards and current Building Regulations for residential and commercial developments. WBM advises property developers, architects, contractors, housing associations and local authorities. Advice is often given on the construction details of floors and walls to achieve specific acoustic criteria and WBM can also offer advice relating to remedial measures to improve sound insulation in existing buildings.
In July 2003, the new Approved Document E of the Building Regulations came into force with an amendment following in 2004. This requires that new residential properties and rooms for residential purposes are tested to demonstrate compliance with the sound insulation performance requirements. Companies who carry out the tests have to be either UKAS Accredited or have some other appropriate third party accreditation such as the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) Registration Scheme.
WBM is registered with the ANC Registration Scheme to carry out sound insulation testing for Approved Document E 2003 and currently has three registered testers. The ANC scheme has been formally recognised by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as appropriate “third-party” accreditation for such tests. Sound insulation tests for Robust Details and the Code for Sustainable Homes can also be undertaken. WBM is able to offer advice on the additional requirements of Approved Document E 2003 including the control of reverberation in common areas and the performance of internal walls and floors. |
