WBM provides a comprehensive service from acoustic advice on initial feasibility and design of the school through to compliance testing. WBM has provided advice to local authorities, architects and contractors on over seventy recent school projects from single classroom extensions to new schools.
From July 2003, the acoustic performance of schools became part of the Building Regulations as Requirement 4 of Approved Document E. Details of the new performance requirements are provided in Building Bulletin 93.
WBM can provide advice on the performance standards as set out in Building Bulletin 93 for the following topics:
- indoor ambient noise levels
- outdoor external teaching areas
- airborne sound insulation between spaces
- impact sound insulation of floors
- reverberation times (RT) in teaching and study areas
- sound absorption in corridors, entrance halls and stairwells
- advice on internal acoustics of music and drama performance spaces
WBM can advise on additional issues such as noise break-out from after school use of facilities and noise from external plant.
